About Us

To begin an acquaintance--

INTRODUCTIONS are necessary--The Turkey Roost is a three-generation combination, Verna (Parent and grandparent), Annie (Daughter and mother), and Shelby (son and grandson). Annie and Verna are the patternmakers and seamstresses, being in a business partnership for about 30 years. Bills untimely death in 2003, Shelby has become our indispensable "doer"; maker and fixer for The Roost. Shelby, by virtue of birth, was the indentured apprentice to Bill--has signed up to fight for liberty with the Colonial army, though he does come back to the Roost for food and water.

The aforementioned business partnership started in the 1970's with our Civil War interest and involvement and built into The Ivory Tower, the 1860's version of The Turkey Roost. We've also costumed medieval lords and ladies, and several notable women's personas for local actresses, including Jane Adams and Elizabeth Van Lew (a Yankee spy), several bustle era gowns and a few flappers. Special projects and challenges are always interesting for us. Now that we've introduced ourselves, we hope we can become friends.
